PMU Pre Appointment Care
Pre-Appointment Guidelines & Contraindications
Thoughtful preparation ensures optimal results, comfortable healing, and long-term pigment retention. Please review the following guidelines prior to your appointment.
Pre-Appointment Care
To support proper pigment placement and healing:
• Avoid alcohol and caffeine for 24 hours prior to your appointment.
• Discontinue blood-thinning supplements (such as fish oil, vitamin E, and aspirin) 3–5 days prior, unless medically necessary and prescribed.
• Avoid retinol, exfoliating acids, and active skincare around the treatment area for at least 7 days prior.
• Do not receive Botox or filler in the treatment area within 2 weeks before your appointment.
• Avoid excessive sun exposure, tanning, or sunburn in the treatment area for 2 weeks prior.
• Refrain from waxing, threading, or chemical peels in the area within 7–10 days.
For Lip Blush specifically:
• If you are prone to cold sores, antiviral medication is strongly recommended prior to your appointment (consult your physician).
Arrive well-rested and hydrated. Do not arrive ill or with active skin irritation in the treatment area.
Contraindications
Permanent makeup may not be suitable if you:
• Are pregnant or nursing
• Are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation
• Have uncontrolled diabetes
• Have active skin infections, open wounds, or irritation in the treatment area
• Have used Accutane within the past 6–12 months
• Have recently undergone laser treatments in the area
• Have a history of keloid scarring
• Are currently taking isotretinoin or certain immunosuppressive medications
Certain medical conditions require physician clearance prior to treatment.
If you are unsure about your candidacy, consultation is required before proceeding.
A Note on Previous Work
If you have prior permanent makeup — even if faded — this must be disclosed prior to booking. Previous pigment may affect technique, color selection, and suitability. In most cases, removal or correction may be required.
PMU Post Appointment Care
Post Application Guidelines
Proper aftercare is essential to support healing, pigment retention, and long-term results. Healing occurs in stages, and adherence to these guidelines significantly influences the final outcome.
What to Expect
Immediately following your appointment, color will appear more saturated and defined. This is normal. Over the next several days, the area may feel tender and appear slightly darker before softening as the skin heals.
Light flaking or dryness may occur. This is part of the natural healing process. Do not pick, scratch, or prematurely remove any flaking skin, as this can disrupt pigment retention.
Final results are visible once healing is complete, typically within 4–6 weeks. A refinement appointment is scheduled to perfect balance and longevity.
First 7–10 Days
• Keep the treated area clean and dry.
• Avoid excessive moisture, sweating, and prolonged steam exposure.
• Do not apply makeup directly over the treated area until fully healed.
• Avoid touching the area unnecessarily.
• Apply only the aftercare product provided, as directed.
Cleanse gently with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser if instructed. Pat dry — do not rub.
Avoid During Healing
• Swimming pools, hot tubs, and ocean water
• Saunas and steam rooms
• Direct sun exposure or tanning
• Chemical peels, exfoliants, or active skincare in the area
• Retinol or vitamin A products
• Picking, scratching, or friction
Sun exposure is one of the most significant contributors to premature fading. Once healed, daily SPF application is strongly recommended for longevity.
Long-Term Care
Permanent makeup gradually softens over time. Skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, and skincare habits all influence retention. Periodic refresh appointments help maintain clarity and balance.
Protecting the treated area from excessive sun and using gentle skincare supports longevity and pigment integrity.
When to Contact the Spa
While mild tenderness, dryness, and temporary darkening are normal, please contact the spa if you experience:
• Excessive swelling
• Signs of infection
• Prolonged irritation
• Unusual discomfort
Your comfort and healing are always prioritized.
Permanent makeup is ideal for those who value subtle, lasting refinement and a simplified daily routine.
It may be a strong fit if you:
• Desire improved symmetry or restored definition
• Have sparse or uneven brows
• Want soft lip color without daily application
• Prefer enhancement that looks polished yet natural
• Appreciate a measured, consultation-driven approach
Permanent makeup is a long-term investment best suited for those seeking thoughtful enhancement rather than dramatic change.
